| Abstract: | This guide first presents a background to the Moment Resisting Frames (MRFs), capacity design, and low damage seismic resisting systems design philosophy, followed by explaining the SHJ seismic behaviour as well as the advantages of the OSHJ in addition to those of the SHJ. Finally the specific design and installation philosophy and approaches for the OSHJ will be presented including detailed step-by-step design provisions and a worked example of the BeS design. It is worth noting that HREA is preparing a worked design example of a multi-storey building incorporating traditional MRSF and OSHJ, and the authors would like to recommend the readers of this guide to study that report when is available. |
