Welding Inspector Level 2

Overview

This course provides training in welding inspection leading to the International Institute of Welding (IIW) International Welding Inspector – Standard (IWI-S) qualification, and the CBIP Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).

Those qualified IWI-S have an advanced knowledge of the application of welding inspection. They are able to supervise visual inspection activities, and develop and implement quality plans, and inspection and test plans. The IWI-S can take responsibility for the acceptance of documents and reports related to quality and inspection.

Course content complies with requirements of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) for the training of welding inspection personnel, and builds on the welding inspection knowledge gained in the Welding Inspector Level 1 (IWI-B) Course.

The course is also recommended for those seeking the CBIP Certified Welding Inspector (who have also completed our Welding Inspector Level 1 course).

You need to meet the following requirements to qualify to do this course.

Proficiency in the comprehension and writing of English as used in the engineering industry,
Proficiency in basic mathematics
The ability to write reports

Additionally:

Those seeking the HERA Welding Inspector Level 2 (IWI-S) qualification must have successfully completed the HERA Welding Inspector Level 1 (IWI-B) qualification.
IWI-S applicants must complete the SF 001A application form in order to enter the IIW International Welding Inspector course via the alternative route.In this case, the HERA ANB will conduct an assessment of your application to ensure you meet the IIW access conditions.
There are no course entry requirements for those wishing to take the CBIP CWI examinations. It is however strongly recommended to complete the Welding Inspector Level 1 course.CWI candidates should read CBIP document No. PRO-CER-07 for more information.

Welding terms and definitions
Mechanical testing on welded joints
Types and causes of weld imperfections
Welding procedures, approvals and welder approvals

NDT techniques:

Testing methods
Visual inspection
Liquid penetrant testing
Magnetic particle testing
Radiographic testing
Ultrasonic testing
Pressure test
Dimensional tests
Quality assurance
Practical work

The standards covered in this course include AS/NZS ISO 17637, AS/NZS 1554 part 1, 2 and 3, AS/NZS ISO 5817, AS/NZS 2980, and AS/NZS ISO 9606.

Exams

Candidates who wish to undertake exams leading to Welding Inspector Level 2 qualifications must apply using the SF 001 WI 2 Application form.

This will be assessed for eligibility by the HERA ANB.

Please note that the exam application is in addition to your registration to the Welding Inspector Level 2 course, and that selecting to do the exams incurs additional fees.

**Applications for the CBIP CWI examinations must be made directly to CBIP.

Alan is a qualified welder, welding supervisor and inspector IWI-C, and an IIW Welding Technologist. He has considerable experience with New Zealand and Australia welding related structural standards and related quality control procedures. Alan is a Lead Auditor for Steel Fabricator Certification (SFC) Scheme.

Volkan Yakut | HERA Senior Welding Engineer

Volkan is an international welding engineer (IIW) with expertise in the field of Defence, Shipbuilding and Oil and gas. He holds NDT qualifications Level 3 for UT and Level 2 for RT, MPI, PT and VT. He is also a Lead Auditor for Steel Fabricator Certification (SFC) Scheme.

Robert Ryan | HERA Welding Engineer

Robert is an international welding inspector (IIW IWI-S) and AS 2214 Welding Supervisor with expertise in the field of welding processes, procedures, training of welders as well as quality management systems to AS/NZS 5131 and SFC

Michail Karpenko | GM Welding Centre

HERA Michail, an international welding engineer (IIW), is a member of the Standards New Zealand and Australia Committees including WD-003 “Welding” actively involved in the revision and updating of welding standards such as AS/NZS 1554, AS/NZS ISO 3834, DR ISO 17607, AS/NZS 5131. He was actively involved in establishing the Fabricator Certification Scheme (SFC) and is also a Lead Auditor for this Scheme.
